Trailer for “Awaken” a short film

Official selection for the 2024 Newark International Film Festival

Awaken

“Awaken” is an official selection for the 2024 Newark International Film Festival.

Three dancers, Evelyn Tejeda, Cecelia Mitchell and Andréa Ward embody the transformative journey from darkness to light, shedding layers of doubt and fear, embodying the transformative verses of a poem written and performed by Damara Woodring, soundscapes by 9 Helix Productions, directed by Nijah Mentor and executive produced by Monifa Kincaid. Through fluid movements and poignant choreography, the dancers navigate the depths of self-discovery; reminding us all that love is the ultimate force that illuminates even the darkest corners of the soul.

This film was supported by a grant from the Newark Artist Accelerator / Project for Empty Space. More details about screenings coming soon. Sign up for our my newsletter to keep up to date.
